If You’re Here, You’ve Probably Tried Everything

You’ve Googled every symptom, cycled through pumps, cried during feeds, and asked every Facebook group imaginable. And still—feeding feels hard. You’ve been told to “just keep nursing” or that “it’s normal to hurt at first,” but your gut says something’s off.

You’re not overreacting. You’re not broken. And you don’t have to figure this out alone.

What you need is someone to listen, to watch what’s actually happening, and to guide you with clarity and compassion. This is the kind of care you should’ve received from day one—and it’s exactly what we’re here to give.

Every in-person consult is designed to be thorough, personalized, and deeply supportive—because your feeding journey deserves real solutions, not rushed advice.

Here’s what you can expect:

The Breastfeeding Mama sitting on chair waiting for in-person breastfeeding support client

Hi, I’m Katie

IBCLC, mom of three, and founder of The Breastfeeding Mama

I became an IBCLC after facing my own struggles with breastfeeding, pumping, and postpartum life—and realizing how much better things could’ve been with the right kind of support. Since then, I’ve worked with thousands of families through online resources, courses, and in-person consults to help make feeding feel less overwhelming and more empowering.

I specialize in milk supply, pumping, oral function, and meeting families exactly where they are—with care that’s realistic, compassionate, and rooted in both science and lived experience. You’ll never be pressured to feed a certain way, and you’ll always leave with a clear plan that feels doable, supportive, and tailored to you.

This work means everything to me, and I’m here to make sure you feel heard, equipped, and confident every step of the way.

I primarily do office visits in Littleton. For those who prefer home visits, Sierra and Julia are available

Insurance Coverage

Many insurances cover the total cost of your visits, but there may be out of pocket costs if your deductible hasn't been met, and this will be billed after the visit. We can provide an estimate if needed but we can never guarantee what insurance will and will not cover

We’re in-network with most major Colorado insurance providers, including Medicaid. If you're using insurance for in-home visits, a $25 travel and home convenience fee applies. When submitting your consult request, please provide us with both you and your baby's insurance information so we can verify insurance (unless it's a prenatal consult).

Packages:

  • 3 sessions: $450

  • 5 sessions: $650

  • We are in-network with nearly all Aetna plans (including subsidaries), though there may be some exceptions. We can bill insurance for in-person and virtual visits. Standard copays, coinsurance, and patient responsibility apply as outlined in this document. Most clients pay anywhere from $0-100 depending on how many visits have been used. Aetna can be complex and deceiving with their covered visits, our new patient paperwork has additional information on how this looks.

  • We are in-network with nearly all UHC and UMR plans (and subsidiaries). We can bill for in-person and some virtual visits. Some plans require prior authorization. Standard co-pay, co-insurance and out-of-pocket costs may apply, though we find that most plans cover your visits.

  • We have partnered with Wildlflower to provide in-person and virtual care for Cigna families. This typically covers 4-6 visits, though we can usually get more approved. Please submit your insurance information here for fastest service. Don't hesitate to reach out for clarification.

  • We are proud to provide in-person and virtual care for Colorado Medicaid clients. Katie and Julia are currently the only ones that can provide this care. You must get a referral put in for lactation care through your doctor before we can see.

  • We are in network with SOME Anthem/BCBS plans for in-person and telehealth. Please submit your information through the consult request form, and we will let you know how to proceed. If not, we will charge the card on file for the remaining amount.

  • We sure do! No matter what’s in the bottle, we can help.

  • We love that you want to be prepared! We recommend writing down any questions (big or small) and figure out the top 1-2 problems you’d like to resolve. We don’t want to overload you and often recommend follow-ups. Generally, it’s best for your baby to be somewhat hungry (not starving), but we understand this isn’t always possible!

  • Yes! From prenatal through weaning, we want to help you with EVERY stage of breastfeeding.

  • We typically do not offer discounts, but we are able to offer flexible payment plans if our self-pay price can’t be paid all at once.

  • Unfortunately, we are not able to just have you send pictures and videos. We require a full visit in order to provide you with the best care possible.

  • You can book a consult to ask questions! If you aren’t sure if we’re the right fit, we are happy to do a 15-minute discovery call, but all clinical questions must be done inside a lactation visit. A virtual consult might be a good option for you!

  • Absolutely! We are a family-centered practice and are happy to have your other children come - please keep in mind that the office is small and some children may not love being there. Some moms prefer to have alternate child care to focus on their breastfeeding needs, but your children are always welcome.

  • Yes! You are welcome to have someone else attend your visit with you - in fact, we find those who have a supportive, involved support person often have the most success. We believe lactation care is a family affair, and we welcome you to bring anyone that YOU feel comfortable with bringing - whether it's a spouse, your mom, or even your best friend!
