Lactation Support in Summerville, SC

Compassionate, Hands-On Help for Your Feeding Journey

Feeding your baby isn’t always as natural as people say. Maybe latching is painful, pumping feels discouraging, your supply seems unpredictable, or you’re simply unsure if things are going the way they should. You don’t have to figure it out alone - that’s where I come in.

✨ The Breastfeeding Mama team offers in-person visits in the Summerville, SC area - both in-office and in the comfort of your home.

Many insurance plans are accepted.

If You’re Here, You’re Ready for Help

Maybe you’ve spent hours on Google, swapped between pumps, asked every online group for advice, and cried during more feeds than you want to admit. Friends or family might have told you “just keep going” or “pain is normal at first” - but something in your gut tells you there’s more to the story.

That instinct matters. And you don’t need to keep pushing through alone.

Our role is to observe what’s happening in real time, listen to your concerns, and provide you with clear, personalized steps to make feeding easier. At The Breastfeeding Mama, our goal is to help you trust your intuition and make informed decisions for your family.

Why In-Person Care Makes a Difference

Virtual support is wonderful, but sometimes you need someone physically present, watching the latch, adjusting your position, helping you with your pump setup, or just to give you connection with another person. That’s what in-person lactation care offers.

During your visit, we’ll work together to uncover what’s really behind your challenges, not just slap a quick fix on the surface. You’ll walk away with a practical plan that’s tailored to you and your baby, along with the reassurance that you’re supported moving forward.

Families book in-person consults for help with:

  • Painful latch or nipple damage

  • Concerns about milk supply

  • Bottle refusal or combo feeding challenges

  • Pumping setup, comfort, or output

  • Transitioning back to work

  • Questions about weaning or feeding beyond infancy

Meet Attie

Chiropractor, IBCLC, and Head of the Summerville Branch of TBM

Hi! I’m Attie, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), prenatal chiropractor, a mom of two and part of The Breastfeeding Mama team.

Like many of the families I help, I didn’t have an easy start with breastfeeding. Those struggles inspired me to become a lactation consultant, so I could provide the kind of support I wish I had.

I’ve helped families with all kinds of feeding goals - from exclusive pumping to nursing through tongue ties, building supply, and navigating the return to work. My style is compassionate, realistic, and always centered on your unique situation. You’ll never be pressured into one “right way” to feed your baby.

I’m proud to serve families in Summerville, SC and surrounding Lowcountry communities.

Insurance Coverage

Many insurances cover the total cost of your visits, but there may be out of pocket costs if your deductible hasn't been met, and this will be billed after the visit. We can provide an estimate if needed but we can never guarantee what insurance will and will not cover

We’re in-network with several South Carolina providers. If you're using insurance for in-home visits, a $25 travel and home convenience fee applies. When submitting your consult request, please provide us with both you and your baby's insurance information so we can verify insurance (unless it's a prenatal consult).

  • We are in-network with nearly all Aetna plans (including subsidaries), though there may be some exceptions. We can bill insurance for in-person and virtual visits. Standard copays, coinsurance, and patient responsibility apply as outlined in this document. Most clients pay anywhere from $0-100 depending on how many visits have been used. Aetna can be complex and deceiving with their covered visits, our new patient paperwork has additional information on how this looks.

  • We are in-network with nearly all UHC and UMR plans (and subsidiaries). We can bill for in-person and some virtual visits. Some plans require prior authorization. Standard co-pay, co-insurance and out-of-pocket costs may apply, though we find that most plans cover your visits.

  • We have partnered with Wildlflower to provide in-person and virtual care for Cigna families. This typically covers 4-6 visits, though we can usually get more approved. Please submit your insurance information here for fastest service. Don't hesitate to reach out for clarification.

  • Unfortunately, we are no longer able to bill BCBS/Anthem directly through TLN due to a company wide change. In Colorado, IBCLCs who are not MD, NP, etc. are not able to get in network. We encourage you to complain about the lack of in network IBCLCs available.

If you have BCBS, we have two options:

    • You can pay the full price of the consult, and we can provide a superbill for you to submit for reimbursement

    • We can submit a claim on your behalf to Anthem/BCBS. The full-price of the consult is due upon booking, but we will refund you whatever amount they pay us.

Please indicate which option you’d like to do when booking.

  • We are proud to provide in-person and virtual care for Colorado Medicaid clients. Katie and Julia are currently the only ones that can provide this care. You must get a referral put in for lactation care through your doctor before we can see.

  • We are in network with Multiplan for in-person and virtual visits. Standard copays, coinsurance, and patient responsibility apply as outlined in this document.

  • We are not in network with Tricare East yet but are working to be soon! We can provide a superbill and a 15% discount for military families.

  • If we are not in network with your insurance, we are happy to provide a superbill to submit to your insurance by request. Please note we do not guarantee reimbursement.

  • We love that you want to be prepared! We recommend writing down any questions (big or small) and figure out the top 1-2 problems you’d like to resolve. We don’t want to overload you and often recommend follow-ups. Generally, it’s best for your baby to be somewhat hungry (not starving), but we understand this isn’t always possible!

  • Yes! From prenatal through weaning, we want to help you with EVERY stage of breastfeeding.

  • We typically do not offer discounts, but we are able to offer flexible payment plans if our self-pay price can’t be paid all at once.

  • Unfortunately, we are not able to just have you send pictures and videos. We require a full visit in order to provide you with the best care possible.

  • You can book a consult to ask questions! If you aren’t sure if we’re the right fit, we are happy to do a 15-minute discovery call, but all clinical questions must be done inside a lactation visit. A virtual consult might be a good option for you!

  • Absolutely! We are a family-centered practice and are happy to have your other children come - please keep in mind that the office is small and some children may not love being there. Some moms prefer to have alternate child care to focus on their breastfeeding needs, but your children are always welcome.

  • Yes! You are welcome to have someone else attend your visit with you - in fact, we find those who have a supportive, involved support person often have the most success.
