Our Approach:

Personalized Care, Rooted in Skill and Compassion

Hey, I’m Katie - founder of The Breastfeeding Mama, and more importantly, a mom of four who struggled a lot when it came to breastfeeding and the poor lactation care I received (that’s why I became a lactation consultant).

When you work with my team, you’re not just another client on our schedule.

  • I’m an IBCLC with years of experience helping thousands of families navigate complex situations.

  • I don’t skim or give generic advice - I dig deeper to find the root cause of challenges.

  • I specialize in milk supply, pumping, and prenatal,  the areas most parents struggle with (and where many consultants stop short).

  • I offer continuity of care, not one-off “quick fixes.”

  • I have trained my team to provide the same level of care!

This is not run-of-the-mill lactation care.
This is complete care - expert guidance, personalized to you, over time.

I know how quickly feeding questions and stress can pile up once your baby is here and how hard it is to ask for help. Those early weeks are tender, exhausting, and often nothing like you imagined.

At The Breastfeeding Mama, we offer compassionate, thorough lactation care designed to transform lactation care from reactive and emergent to proactive and calm.

I’m a mom just like you and know where you are, because I’ve been there, too.

Please fill out this form - our team will typically respond within a few hours - often sooner! If you have any issues filling out the form, would rather submit this information directly, or have any questions, please text 720-463-4016.

At The Breastfeeding Mama, we do things different

We’ve all heard the horror stories of the militant lactation consultants - that’s not how we roll. My team believes strongly that:

  • Your feeding goals matter.

  • Your mental and emotional well-being is the top priority.

  • Every problem has an answer, and we dig deep

  • Judgment has no place in lactation care.

  • Realistic, personalized guidance is crucial.

  • It’s about far more than just breastfeeding - it’s about helping families feel confident in their feeding choices.

That’s why we not only offer single lactation visits but premium packages designed to help you thrive through breastfeeding - not merely survive.

The Breastfeeding Mama sitting on chair waiting for in-person breastfeeding support client

Hi, I’m Katie

IBCLC, mom of four, and founder of The Breastfeeding Mama. Milk Supply and Pumping Expert.

Available in the office and virtually - in-home availability with package purchase.

I became an IBCLC after facing my own significant struggles with breastfeeding and realizing how much better things could’ve been with the right kind of support. I’ve worked with thousands of families by providing online resources, groups, courses, and consults to help make feeding feel less overwhelming and more empowering.

I specialize in milk supply, pumping, prenatal prep, and holistic approaches to oral function, and, more importantly, in meeting you exactly where you are, with care that’s realistic, compassionate, and rooted in both science and lived experience.

I am a lifelong learner, constantly taking classes, learning new methods, and advocating for my clients to get the answers they deserve.

You’ll never be pressured to feed a certain way, you’ll always leave with a clear plan that feels doable, supportive, and tailored to you, and you will always have someone to turn to with your questions (even in the middle of the night). You are more than just a client when you walk into my office.

This work means everything to me, and I’m here to make sure you feel heard, equipped, and confident every step of the way. There is no greater privilege for me than working with you during this time.

I primarily do office visits in Littleton and virtual visits. I am only available for home visits with one of my package offerings.

Insurance Coverage

Many insurances cover the total cost of your visits, but there may be out-of-pocket costs if your deductible hasn't been met, and this will be billed after the visit. We can provide an estimate if needed, but we can never guarantee what insurance will and will not cover. For our packages, approximately 50% of the cost is covered by insurance.

We’re in-network with most major Colorado insurance providers, including Medicaid and CHP+ (not Kaiser CHP+). If you're using insurance for in-home visits, a $25 travel and home convenience fee applies per visit (waived for packages). When submitting your consult request, please provide us with both you and your baby's insurance information so we can verify insurance (unless it's a prenatal consult).

Please check our current status with the different insurances below and text 720-463-4016 with any questions.

Please text 720-463-4016 for any assistance with insurance or payment questions.

  • We are in-network with nearly all Aetna plans (including subsidaries), though there may be some exceptions. We can bill insurance for in-person and virtual visits. Standard copays, coinsurance, and patient responsibility apply as outlined in this document. Most clients pay anywhere from $0-100 depending on how many visits have been used. Aetna can be complex and deceiving with their covered visits, our new patient paperwork has additional information on how this looks.

  • Starting Jan 5th, 2026, we can accept Anthem plans for virtual visits only.

Unfortunately, we are no longer able to bill BCBS/Anthem directly through TLN due to a company wide change. In Colorado, IBCLCs who are not MD, NP, etc. are not able to get in network.

We encourage you to complain about the lack of in network IBCLCs available.

    • You can pay the full price of the consult, and we can provide a superbill for you to submit for reimbursement. We have found this to be the most effective way to get reimbursement.

  • We have partnered with Wildlflower to provide in-person and virtual care for Cigna families. This typically covers 4-6 visits, though we can usually get more approved. Please submit your insurance information here for fastest service. Don't hesitate to reach out for clarification.

  • Kaiser does not allow IBCLCs to be in network outside their in house lactation groups. However, we can take some PPO and point of service plans if you have PHCS listed on your insurance card.

  • We are proud to provide in-person and virtual care for Colorado Medicaid clients. You must get a referral put in for lactation care through your doctor before we can see.

We are also in network with CHP+ (exclusing Kaiser CHP+)

  • We are in network with Multiplan for in-person and virtual visits. Standard copays, coinsurance, and patient responsibility apply as outlined in this document.

  • We are unfortnately not in network with Tricare West at this time. We can provide a discount for those who are under Tricare. Please inquire for more details on pricing.

  • We are in-network with nearly all UHC and UMR plans (and subsidiaries). We can bill for in-person and some virtual visits. Some plans require prior authorization. Standard co-pay, co-insurance and out-of-pocket costs may apply, though we find that most plans cover your visits.

  • If we are not in network with your insurance, we are happy to provide a superbill to submit to your insurance by request. Please note we do not guarantee reimbursement.

  • Yes, we work with most major insurance companies in Denver, including Medicaid. Please fill out the consult request form and we will help you to verify if your insurance covers visits. Most cover 100%

  • An initial appointment is anywhere from 60-90 minutes. We don’t rush you! Follow-ups are anywhere from 30-60 minutes.

  • Absolutely! Any infant feeding challenges you have, our team is equipped to help.

  • We sure do! No matter what’s in the bottle, we can help.

  • We love that you want to be prepared! We recommend writing down any questions (big or small) and figure out the top 1-2 problems you’d like to resolve. We don’t want to overload you and often recommend follow-ups. Generally, it’s best for your baby to be somewhat hungry (not starving), but we understand this isn’t always possible!

  • Yes! From prenatal through weaning, we want to help you with EVERY stage of breastfeeding.

  • For self-pay clients, we do offer a discount for multiple visits booked up front.

  • Unfortunately, we are not able to just have you send pictures and videos. We require a full visit in order to provide you with the best care possible.

  • You can book a consult to ask questions! If you aren’t sure if we’re the right fit, we are happy to do a 15-minute discovery call, but all clinical questions must be done inside a lactation visit. A virtual consult might be a good option for you!

  • Absolutely! We are a family-centered practice and are happy to have your other children come - please keep in mind that the office is small and some children may not love being there. Some moms prefer to have alternate child care to focus on their breastfeeding needs, but your children are always welcome.

  • Yes! You are welcome to have someone else attend your visit with you - in fact, we find those who have a supportive, involved support person often have the most success. We believe lactation care is a family affair, and we welcome you to bring anyone that YOU feel comfortable with bringing - whether it's a spouse, your mom, or even your best friend!

  • Katie has a private office in her home near Columbine office. The office is right off the front entry way and is the perfect cozy space to meet all your lactation needs.

Breck also has a wonderful home office in the heart of Greenwood Village.
