Summerville Prenatal Lactation Support for New Moms

You want to breastfeed but aren’t sure where to start. That’s where The Breastfeeding Mama comes in. Available for support in Summerville, SC.

Maybe you’re excited to breastfeed.

Maybe you’re nervous. Maybe you’ve heard “it’s natural” - and also heard that it can be really hard.

You don’t need a long class that you forget about after you go home.

You need personalized support. You need a plan.
You need someone who’s done this - both personally and professionally.

I’m Katie - mom of four and an IBCLC who has walked thousands of families through those first tender weeks. I created The Breastfeeding Mama after seeing far too many moms given the bare minimum when it comes to lactation support.

I can tell you this:

The families who feel the most confident with their feeding decisions are the ones who prepare before their baby even arrives and have a strong support network from the start.

Attie does our visits in Summerville, and I brought her on because of her deep desire to help you not just survive breastfeeding but thrive. Her background in prenatal chiropractic and having two daughters of her own has prepared her to support the whole mom-baby dyad from day one.

The Breastfeeding Mama has helped thousands of new moms succesfully breastfeed - and we do things differently

It’s not about memorizing positions or knowing how many wet diapers your baby needs (though, that’s important, too!)

We know how quickly feeding questions and stress can pile up once your baby is here and how hard it is to ask for help. Those early weeks are tender, exhausting, and often nothing like you imagined.

The reality is that many families leave the hospital feeling unsure, sore, or discouraged, even if things seemed fine at first. Questions arise days or weeks later, and suddenly you wonder whether what you are experiencing is normal or if something is off.

At The Breastfeeding Mama, we offer compassionate, thorough prenatal packages designed to transform lactation care from reactive and emergent to proactive and calm. We want you to more than just survive breastfeeding - we want you to thrive. Single prenatal visits are always available for booking, but families find the most value in one of our packages.

Breastfeeding Prep for Summerville Expectant Mamas

You know you want breastfeeding to go well.

But you might not know how much easier everything will feel when you get expert support before your baby is in your arms.

Nearly 95% of moms struggle to breastfeed - not because they did anything wrong, but because no one prepared them for what feeding actually looks like in real life.

Your prenatal visit is your chance to change that.

Most parents never get this level of preparation, and it shows.

When you have expert guidance from pregnancy through those tender early weeks, everything feels calmer, clearer, and far less overwhelming.

You deserve education that’s clear, calm, evidence-based, and tailored to your birth plan, medical history, and feeding goals.

Hi, I’m Katie

IBCLC, mom of three, and founder of The Breastfeeding Mama

I became an IBCLC after facing my own significant struggles with breastfeeding and realizing how much better things could’ve been with the right kind of support. I’ve worked with thousands of families by providing online resources, groups, courses, and consults to help make feeding feel less overwhelming and more empowering.

I specialize in milk supply, pumping, and prenatal prep, and, more importantly, in meeting you exactly where you are, with care that’s realistic, compassionate, and rooted in both science and lived experience. I am a lifelong learner, constantly taking classes, learning new methods, and advocating for my clients to get the answers they deserve.

You’ll never be pressured to feed a certain way, you’ll always leave with a clear plan that feels doable, supportive, and tailored to you, and you will always have someone to turn to with your questions (even in the middle of the night). You are more than just a client when you walk into my office.

This work means everything to me, and I’m here to make sure you feel heard, equipped, and confident every step of the way. There is no greater privilege for me than working with you during this time.

I primarily do office visits in Littleton and virtual visits. For those who prefer home visits, Sierra, Julia and Breck are available across the Denver Metro, Foothills, and Castle Rock areas. Our team works together to ensure continuity of care, no matter who you see.

Insurance Coverage

Many insurances cover the total cost of your visits, but there may be out-of-pocket costs if your deductible hasn't been met, and this will be billed after the visit. We can provide an estimate if needed, but we can never guarantee what insurance will and will not cover. For our packages, about 40% will be covered by insurance with an out-of-pocket fee for services not covered by insurance.

We’re in-network with most major Colorado insurance providers, including Medicaid and CHP+. If you're using insurance for in-home visits, a $25 travel and home convenience fee applies per visit (waived for packages).

Please check our current status with the different insurances below and text 720-463-4016 with any questions.

Please text 720-463-4016 for any assistance with insurance or payment questions.

  • We are in-network with nearly all Aetna plans (including subsidaries), though there may be some exceptions. We can bill insurance for in-person and virtual visits. Standard copays, coinsurance, and patient responsibility apply as outlined in this document. Most clients pay anywhere from $0-100 depending on how many visits have been used. Aetna can be complex and deceiving with their covered visits, our new patient paperwork has additional information on how this looks.

  • We are in-network with nearly all UHC and UMR plans (and subsidiaries). We can bill for in-person and some virtual visits. Some plans require prior authorization. Standard co-pay, co-insurance and out-of-pocket costs may apply, though we find that most plans cover your visits.

  • We have partnered with Wildlflower to provide in-person and virtual care for Cigna families. This typically covers 4-6 visits, though we can usually get more approved. Please submit your insurance information here for fastest service. Don't hesitate to reach out for clarification.

  • Unfortunately, we are only able to bill for Anthem BCBS plans for virtual visits (you must have Anthem listed on your card). All in person visits are billed as self-pay and we can provide you with a superbill.

Colorado Anthem BCBS does not allow for lactation consultants to be in network.

  • We are proud to provide in-person and virtual care for Colorado Medicaid clients. Katie and Julia are currently the only ones that can provide this care. You must get a referral put in for lactation care through your doctor before we can see.

  • We are in network with Multiplan for in-person and virtual visits. Standard copays, coinsurance, and patient responsibility apply as outlined in this document.

  • We are unfortnately not in network with Tricare West at this time. We can provide a discount for those who are under Tricare. Please inquire for more details on pricing.

  • If we are not in network with your insurance, we are happy to provide a superbill to submit to your insurance by request. Please note we do not guarantee reimbursement.
