Need a Pathway 3 IBCLC Mentor?

I’d love to support you!

If you're on the road to becoming an IBCLC through Pathway 3, you're in the right place. I offer a limited number of mentorship spots—both virtually and in person here in Littleton, CO—and I’m passionate about guiding future lactation consultants through this incredible (and intense!) journey.

Take a moment to read through all the details below before applying—I can’t wait to connect with you!

Mentorship Overview

As a Pathway 3 graduate, I know how difficult it can be to find a mentor to supervise your hours and provide you with hands-on experience as an IBCLC. Because of this, I am excited to announce that I have Pathway 3 Mentorship opportunities available! These mentorships are available virtually worldwide and locally in Littleton, CO. At this time, I cannot guarantee a minimum number of hours available, but as my business grows, there should be many opportunities.

Here is an overview of what I am able to offer and what is expected of mentors that I work with:

A light yellow teardrop-shaped logo with the word 'tcfm' written inside in lowercase white letters.

How mentorship works

Every IBCLC sets up their mentorships differently within the parameters IBLCE has set. Here is an overview of what you can expect with a mentorship through The Breastfeeding Mama:

Minimum Requirements

  • 14 Health Science Credits completed (or actively in progress)

  • 95 Hours of Lactation Specific Education

  • Fluent in the English language

  • Six-month commitment (can be renewed month to month after this)

  • IBCLC Student Liability Insurance (this is typically under $100 a year)

  • An approved Pathway 3 mentorship plan – I can assist in this if you need me to help you

Opportunities and Expectations

  • The mentee is responsible for tracking hours and reviewing these with me each month

  • I guarantee no specific number of hours that you’ll be able to do each week.

  • I will provide the dates and times for upcoming consultations and you will have an opportunity to participate in the ones that are available. In the case that there is more than one mentee, it will be on a first come, first serve basis. Two mentees may be able to participate in a consult at a time.

  • You will be held to a high level of professionalism and empathy for all the clients you work with

  • You will be required to sign a HIPAA confidentiality agreement

  • I will provide you with the opportunity to talk with me about cases, ask questions about topics you are unsure about, and collaborate with other mentees

  • When there is interest, I will do teaching sessions with you and other mentees on topics of interest

  • You are welcome to have another mentor.

  • I am available to help you prepare for the IBCLC exam

Benefits to Mentee

  • You will be able to get your 500 hours for your IBCLC certification at no financial cost

  • You will learn how to do lactation consults in a variety of settings and for various topics and ages (from prenatal through weaning) – even if you are virtual, you can observe in-person consults as well as virtual

  • You will receive hands-on training with online charting programs and learn how to create a personalized care plan for clients

  • You will be prepared to start your own private practice after you pass the exam

Fees

It is common to have fees associated with IBCLC mentorships. However, I have chosen to not have any fees for my mentors. You provide me with help through your support in consults, and I want to make this more accessible to those who want to become an IBCLC.

Places for Mentorship

  • Virtual (worldwide) through Zoom

  • Littleton, CO in my home office.

About The Breastfeeding Mama

I started The Breastfeeding Mama in 2018 as I worked toward earning my own IBCLC certification. It’s become an amazing place for new moms and families to learn about breastfeeding and gain support. I currently offer virtual and in-person consultations in my own practice. I lean toward holistic lactation support and about the finding the root cause of problems. I believe that every breastfeeding journey is unique and new families deserve the best personalized support possible. I have a particular passion for oral restrictions, weaning, clogged ducts, and pumping, and I have continuing education and experience in many topics. While my practice isn’t faith-focused, I am a person of faith, which guides much of what I do in my life, including my private practice. No faith requirements are required for this, but an ideal candidate will be respectful of all faiths and backgrounds.
